so much for the updates

Few things while I’m thinking enough to update my weblog.

1) LINQ is bad-ass, even if it does come from Microsoft. May start learning C# once I get a handle on Java. (Really the big problem with this for me is actually finding things to code in it. I hardly ever have problems with syntax - the fact that most of the trendy languages now-a-days are pretty similar as far as syntactic sugar goes helps - but if I don’t write stuff I forget functions and stuff. Same thing happens with real people languages. I hates it, I do.)

2) I watched the video for Glósóli and, needless to say, I am really, really, really excited about the new Sígur Rós album that’s out. Ordered my copy off of Bad Taste, hopefully will have it in a few weeks.

Finally getting my head wrapped nicely around the concepts of an object model. It was harder than I thought, mainly since I typically do so much procedural stuff (since, to be honest, I don’t see the point a lot of times with making Web stuff fully OOP) that I wasn’t fluent enough in things for it to really make sense. (see previous comment about forgetting things.) Doing it in PHP, which is cool; I want to experiment with memcache when I get the chance.

Thinking about expanding my horizons a bit.. looking into possible gym usership. Actually participating in sports which is odd for me, as the whole liking sports thing is a recent phenomenon. Also thinking about learning French. I tried (and by tried I meant actually went to class!) when I was still going to school but failed miserably. Last bit is switching majors; thinking about going for a BBA instead of a BSc. And then actually, y’know, going. That might be nice.

I had a wonderful vision of making everyone at school log in with a thumbprint, a maxim iButton (or something resembling the little RFID thing I have to get into admin), and a PIN, and then using shibboleth to access everything, and it was nice but I realized that we’d never do anything that cool. C’est la vie.
