So I actually felt bad enough today to take a sick day. Doesn’t happen very often. I’ll have to remember that I did so that I report my time correctly.

Almost done with moving. This upcoming weekend is the last bit of it - I have a few more things to toss and then it’s just mop/vacuum duties. It’s been a long process but it feels pretty good to be able to complete it - I’m horrible about actually finishing stuff, so this is a decent ego boost.  Come September I’ll be really enjoying not giving the oil companies a ton of cash. I’ve been doing well with walking to work, even to the extent that I’ve been walking to/from to get lunch too most days.

Speaking of work, there’s way too much going on there. I got a bit of a bombshell dropped on me a few days ago with some additional hosting stuff they’re trying to work through - if it goes through, it’ll be a hectic month to be certain. People seem to be happy with me, which is a plus, and I do like that they trust in me enough to drop relatively high-profile things like this on my desk. It’s good to be needed and good to be given an opportunity to really prove myself beyond the homegrown stuff. (While I’ve done well with the homegrown app thing, I do sometimes wonder if it really matters that much.) I’ve been working on adapting my workflow to make things easier - I’ve actually started taking notes in meetings that are important, which is a change for me.

I’ve gotta get some training set up - I wanna go for my MCDBA and/or something Oracle related, just to say I’ve got ‘em. Plus, they want me to do some leadership-type stuff, so I need to find some of that out there too. (Not that I’m objecting.)

Next week, I’ve actually got some vacation time coming. It’s a horrible time to be taking it but it’s needed. I’m off to Tupelo for a wedding and then off to see the parental units- 10 days in all. Really looking forward to it.

You need to blog more often.. I completely understand this: “It’s good to be needed and good to be given an opportunity to really prove myself beyond the homegrown stuff.”

Definitely! I wish more of that would come my way.
Out of curiosity, how bad was your first utility bill? Or both of them combined?
